More super macro photos on TX1
I took some more super macro photos on the TX1 today, this time of a bee that was wandering around on my window sill. Given it was still alive, and these were handheld, I am gobsmacked at the quality of the photos I got.

Found your link on the Cnet uk site, and i am very pleased i did! Your blog is very interesting indeed. Many thanks for sharing your experiences with the TX1. I cant understand why it is not avaliable in the UK. My concern with importing it from the east is the menu language etc. I am so impressed with the video quality, and the pictures look decent also. It annoys me when reviews mark it down on picture quality and how fiddly it is. Lets not forget it is a tiny copact hybrid after all. Keep it in context i say! Sandisc have launched a 8gig standard card. (below the ultra 2 and extreme) i was worried whether it was compatable. Many thanks once again.
Hi Seb. Thanks for the comments. I agree that the reviewers sometimes expect too much. Given the size, capabilities and cost of this camera, it's a pretty great little package.
In terms of importing from Hong Kong, I did that and it's all in English, even the manuals and other documentation. I haven't felt for a moment that it's a foreign import. It even came with a 12 month warranty that can be honoured in the UK, plus I'm pretty sure Canon's warranties are international, although you should check first if that's a factor.
Cheers, Matt
Hi Matt,
In your first post you mention being able to adjust the "date stamp" for specific locations.
Does the TX1 actually have a date stamp that can be put on prints or is it like the other Canons, date stamp only available on "postcard size" photos? I, for one, liked the date stamp capability but it seems to have disappeared from most digital cameras.
Hi Jack,
The datestamp only exists in the EXIF metadata that gets embedded in the photo's file. As far as I can see there's no capability to imprint it on the digital copy of the photo. Not sure about the postcard option.
To be fair I have not read the lengthy user guide on Direct Print so there may be options I'm not aware of. I haven't been able to find a PDF version of it online yet. If you want me to have a peek in the manual let me know, but I am away for the next couple of days.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for your reply. I am a motorcyclist so space is a real premium. I really enjoy capturing special moments when im out and about so the TX1 will be perfect for that job. Also having rather small hands it should suit me well. I am a mac user (imac G5 20inch) so i ought to check if i can edit the videos in imovie i suppose.
All the best. Seb
Hey Seb, you can definitely edit in iMovie, no problems at all. And once you're done if you encode it using H.264 it will probably end up only about 10-20% the file size too. Cheers, Matt

Hi, I've been experiencing some strange grinding noise on my new TX1, too. Only happens in very low light, probably caused by OIS :(
